From Injury to Inspiration

In My younger years, I enjoyed playing sports, hiking, fishing dirt biking, and other out door activities I even won a trophy for Tae-Kwon-Do.  I tried sky diving once and had inspirations to continue on with that and rock climbing. 
I met my lovely wife Melissa in my early 20’s, and together we started to raise a family.

On the day that we were due to have our youngest daughter I was badly shocked while working around a high voltage power line, losing an arm and a leg, and sustaining third degree burns to 70% of my body.  My life changed forever.

Looking back I now realize that I should have refused to perform this task rather than proceed because of someone else’s advice that the task was safe.  I stress the right to refuse any work that you feel isn’t safe as well as taking the appropriate measures in performing a pre-job hazard assessment.

I was very fortunate to have even survived.  After the incident, I fought very hard to live.  The pain that my wife, family and friends suffered was very intense as they watched someone that they loved have to fight for their life.

I cannot go back and change the events that very dark day that should have been a very bright day but I have maintained a positive attitude toward life and I have accepted, as best I can, my present condition.  

Today I am using the incident in a very positive way to share information and to be productive in life.  I have become an Inspirational Speaker and have been traveling around the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan giving talks to people in the workplace sharing my story in hopes of preventing other accidents, and accidents like this one.
